Full Description
Casablanca is the largest city in the Maghreb region and the eighth-largest in the Arab world. Situated on Morocco's Atlantic coast, it rose to prominence in the mid-8th century as a key city of the Berber Barghawata kingdom. In the 14th century, the city served as a vital port for the Merinids, and by the 15th century, it became a renowned safe harbor for pirates. Following Portuguese control, Casablanca was largely devastated by an earthquake in 1755. It was subsequently rebuilt by Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah and later colonized by the French in the 20th century.
Known as Dar El Baïda in Arabic, meaning "white city," Casablanca earned its name from Spanish and Portuguese navigators enchanted by the white facades of the Anfa district’s houses overlooking the sea.
Hassan II Mosque is the highlight of your trip and an architectural masterpiece that symbolizes modern Morocco. Named after King Hassan II, this stunning mosque showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage and Islamic traditions. Completed in the late 20th century, it features intricate mosaics, beautiful woodwork, and exquisite marble floors. Notably, the expansive prayer hall has a retractable roof, allowing natural light to enhance the serene atmosphere. A visit to this iconic site is a must for anyone exploring Morocco.
Explore this vibrant city, where modern infrastructure meets rich history. Stroll along its lively boulevards, visit the colorful Habous district, and discover the Mehkma, the city's court. Experience the grandeur of two significant religious landmarks: Notre-Dame de Lourdes Cathedral and the magnificent Hassan II Mosque. Conclude your visit in the residential area of Anfa, where you can shop for souvenirs at the newly developed shopping center facing the sea.
